Have you ever ridden a lorry into the jungle?
Trans Panti starts differently from any other hike. After meeting at the orphanage at 7am, we hop onto a lorry or 4x4 and ride 45 minutes into the Kota Tinggi hills. You can sit, or stand in the open truck bed with the wind in your face, watching the sunrise roll over farms and kampung scenery. Some hikers joke about it, but trust me, that slow easy feeling gets everyone smiling and filming before the hike even begins.
The route is called Trans Panti because it is a traverse: we start from Panti Timur, pass through Panti Tengah, and summit Panti Barat, crossing two peaks in a single day before ending back at the orphanage. About 13km, 750m of elevation gain, done in about 8 hours.
One trail, sights you will not find anywhere else
On most mountains, one or two highlights per trail is already good. On Trans Panti they just keep coming:
The Stone Stack, Batu Tenggek
A natural wonder about two storeys tall, giant rocks stacked on top of each other with plants bursting out of the top like fireworks. This is where we spend the most time. Some pose under the rock, some climb halfway up, and every angle looks amazing. This was the stop that impressed me most.

Batu Transformer
Further along the trail you meet Batu Transformer. It really does look like a giant stone head, and it makes another great photo stop.

The Blood Pool
I have never seen anything like it in a forest. A pool of still water that turns a deep blood red under the sunlight, framed by moss covered rocks.

The summit of Panti Barat
We reach the top around noon. The views are wide open, and we take our time here with lunch, rest and photos.

The Batu Dinding rock wall
On the way down comes the signature stretch: Batu Dinding, a rock face so steep it feels like a wall, with about 100m of vertical descent. For the final part you choose between climbing down a ladder or descending on a rope. If you are afraid of heights, prepare yourself mentally first (see the FAQ below). The sense of achievement at the bottom stays with you for a long time.

Slow down and the forest rewards you
Walk a little slower and you will spot things you never see in the city: bugs striped like zebra crossings, frogs, pitcher plants and strange wild fruits. The trail also passes through a small patch of mossy forest. The moss is light and sparse rather than thick, but look closely and you will spot it on the trees along the way. The scenery keeps changing and never gets boring.
Who is this hike for
Honestly, this is not a beginner trail. It fits you if you are:
- Someone who does regular cardio with decent endurance
- Someone who has recently done hikes with 500m or more of elevation gain
- A hiking lover who wants stone stacks, red pools and a two peak traverse in a single trail
- Someone who wants that unforgettable lorry ride opening
The day ends back at the orphanage with a good shower and clean clothes for the ride home. One more thing, we suggest an RM10 donation per person for parking and showering. The orphanage is in a remote area with few visitors, so think of it as a small way to support and bless the children there.
